Lake Star Building & Remodeling is pleased to be the first builder in the state of Ohio to build a home that has received the prestigious "Health House Advantage Home (TM)" certification from the American Lung Association.

This rating means that the home is built in such a way as to maximize the indoor air quality, making for a healthier environment for you and your family.

What is the Health House Advantage?

The American Lung Association (ALA) of Minnesota began developing the national "Health House" (R) (HH) project in 1993. The ALA is truly concerned with improving indoor air quality (IAQ) for all people - not just those with lung disease. Their research discovered that Americans spend 90% of their time indoors; 65% of that time is spent in their own homes! Because air quality is the major contributing factor to lung disease and respiratory ailments, it only makes sense to clean up the air where most Americans spend over half of their time - their own homes!!

Health House Advantage (TM) (HHA) program is a program of the original HH project. It has grown to include more than 20 states. The HHA Home that Lake Star Construction Co., Inc. (LSCCI) built, was the very first one in the state of Ohio.

LSCCI has gone through the HHA training program to become qualified to build these homes.

A HHA home must meet the climate specific criteria developed by the ALA. The HHA program is the only residential building program which addresses health, energy, and resource efficiency. Once the home is built, it is tested and verified to meet this criteria.

The Facts:

  • Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) is a problem for one in six people.
  • One in three families suffer from allergies.
  • The EPA lists poor IAQ as the fourth largest environmental threat to our country.
  • An estimated 14.6 million Americans suffer from asthma; pediatric asthma cases rose 72.3% from 1982 to 1994 - a staggering increase. There is a strong correlation between IAQ and increased respiratory problems for people with asthma.
  • According to ASHRAW, 90% of all buildings' problems are moisture related.
  • Environmental pollutants (auto exhaust, pollen, insecticides, etc.,) are drawn into the homes through leaks.
  • A 1996 public opinion poll commissioned by the Environmental Defense Fund identified the ALA as the NUMBER ONE source of credible information on the IAQ.

Health House Advantage Home is a registered trademark of the American Lung Association.
